Kathakali at The British Library
There was Ramayana Exhibition and events going on at the British Library for some months during May-Sep'08. The main exhibition, titled 'The Ramayana: Love and Valour in India's Great Epic' was based on over 100 gorgeous 17th-century Indian manuscript paintings from the Royal courts of Rajasthan and The Deccan kingdoms..
As part of the events were music and dance performances, related to and inspired by Ramayana.
One of them, was a Solo performance by Kalamandalam Vijayakumar, demonstrating the remarkable technique, drama and costume of south Indian Kathakali dance drama.
The Ramayana events programme celebrated the excitement and diversity of this timeless story. Music, dance and puppetry performances, lectures, film screenings, gallery talks and family events brought the Ramayana to life and explored the themes, history and cultural significance of this great epic from India.
